Ross McCurdy
Selected as RI Metro
Chapter Teacher of the Year for 2009
Currently in his 11th
year as a Science Teacher at Ponaganset High School teaching
Chemistry, Physical Science, and Fuel Cell Systems courses,
Ross McCurdy was selected by the RI Metro AFA Chapter
as their Teacher of the Year for 2009. Along with classic
Science subjects, Alternative/Renewable Energy has been
an area of focus and success and has brought numerous
innovative hands-on projects and other learning opportunities
to the students of Ponaganset High School.
Through grants and
other funding, Ponaganset High School now has photovoltaic
solar panels installed on the roof, the entire school
is heated using a high-tech biomass system, and more renewable
energy projects are in
progress.
McCurdy's prior Air
Force experience has proven valuable in the classroom,
contributing in the areas of classroom discipline, science
and technology applications, and the "can do"
attitude needed to achieve success with major projects.
McCurdy is also the recipient of the February 2009 Rhode
Island Attorney General Justice Award for the Coast to
Coast Biodiesel Pickup Project.
Congratulations to
Ross McCurdy on his recognition as Teacher of the Year
and best of luck in the regional and national AFA competitions!
