  • January 2008- The Rhode Island State Air Force Association appointed a new State Vice President - Fred Fostic.
  • November 2007- The Rhode Island State Air Force Association swore in a new State President - CMSgt (Ret) Bob Wilkinson. A new President was also assigned to Metro Chapter 311 - Col Dean Plowman.
  • Jul 2006 - AFA has successfully transitioned to a new 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. Basically, the existing AFA and Aerospace Education Foundation (AEF) organizations merged into one association. Going non-profit 501(c)(3) is the first initiative implemented as part of afa21 - a broadly scoped transformational plan that will address governance and field structure next.   • Feb 2006 - The Aerospace Education Foundation (AEF) announced that two Rhode Islanders were winners of the 2006 Educator Grant: Lark Goodyear from Jamestown-Lawn Avenue School and Rebecca Horton from Flat River Middle School. The AEF also announced that Cadet Medals were being presented to two AF JROTC units in Rhode Island: Coventry High School and Woonsocket High School.
  • June 2005 - Col Dutch Huizenga and CMSgt (Ret) Bob Lachapelle were awarded the Air Force Association Medal of Merit.
  • March 2005 - Ms. Joan Stevens of Portsmouth High School was nominated by the Newport Chapter and selected as the Rhode Island Teacher of the Year for 2005 by the RI State AFA. She is the first recipient of the award. She will be recognized at the July AFA State Convention and Eastern Regional Meeting.
  • February 2005 - The Aerospace Education Foundation announced that Suzanne Costa, Barrington Middle School, Barrington, RI, was one of the winners of its 2005 Educator Grants.
  • January 2005 - The AFA Executive Committee approved a special promotional half-price membership program ($18.00) for junior enlisted personnel (E-1 through E-4), effective 1 Jan 05. Until revised membership applications are available, use the current application, clearly indicate the rank on the application, and write in "Junior Enlisted Promotional Program - $18.00" in the payment options area.

  • December 2004 - Col Wayne Mrozinski, former AFA State President for Rhode Island and former Chapter 311 President, retired from military service in a ceremony on 4 Dec 04.
  • September 2004 - Dutch Huizenga was named the new President of Newport Blue and Gold Chapter 180 and Command CMSgt Lori Casucci of the Rhode Island Air National Guard was presented with the Air Force Association National Awards Committee's Medal of Merit.
  • June 2004 - CMSgt Lori Ashness of the Rhode Island Air National Guard has been selected to serve on the Air National Guard AFA Advisory Council, which is appointed by the Director of the Air National Guard to advise the USAF national leadership on issues directly affecting the Air National Guard. As a member of the council, CMSgt Ashness will serve in an advisory capacity to the AFA by developing annual issues important to the ANG and by providing feedback to the field.
  • March 2004 - CMSgt (Ret) Bob Lachapelle was named the new President of the Metro Rhode Island Chapter of the Rhode Island State Air Force Association. The outgoing chapter President, Brig Gen (Ret) Joseph Waller, will now be serving as the new Rhode Island Air Force Association State President
